A strong cold spell is covering northern Vietnam and might be freezing several mountainous spots like Sa Pa on Wednesday and Thursday night, according to weather forecasts.
Temperatures in the region started dropping from Monday to 12-13 degrees Celsius in the lowland area on Tuesday and below 10 degrees in mountainous area.
The national weather broadcast center said places at more than 2,000 meters high such as Sa Pa in Lao Cai Province and Mau Son in Lang Son Province might get as cold as one to three degrees in the next three days, and there might be heavy frost on Wednesday and Thursday night.
Hanoi temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday will be ranging from below 13 degrees and 17 degrees.
Sa Pa as a resort town has become very popular to foreigners in Vietnam as it is the only tourist destination that can be snowy during Christmas time.
But it is not a charming time for local farmers who need to avoid seeding and keep their animals and plants, especially the young ones, warm.
There will be strong winds and rough see off the northern and central coast, according to the broadcast center.
