A cold spell is expected to bring snow and frost this week to the resort town of Sa Pa and other northern peaks this weekend, the second time in a little over than a month.
Sa Pa and the nearby O Quy Ho Pass both at 2,000 meters, Mu Cang Chai District at 1,000 meters in the northwest, and the northeastern Mau Son mountain also at 1,000 meters might be covered in snow and frost between Friday night and Sunday as temperatures plummet in some places to below zero.
The lowest temperature in the northern plains could go down to eight degrees, the national weather office said.
But average temperatures in the north and central regions, the latter also to be affected by the cold spell, will be around 13-15 degrees, it said.
Snow occasionally appears in Sa Pa and other places in the northern highlands, drawing a lot of curious foreign and local tourists every time.
