The Canadian government will co-host a charity run in Hanoi on Sunday to raise funds for treating children with cancer and heart diseases.

Vietnamese and international communities including the media, government leaders, school students, hospitals, public and private organizations, are invited to the run at 7:00 a.m. Sunday at Thien Quang Lake, Hanoi, the Canadian Embassy said in a press release.

The 11th edition of the annual event is organized in collaboration with the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations and Manulife Vietnam.

It is expected to make the public aware of healthcare issues in Vietnam and raise funds for poor children with cancer and congenital heart diseases.

Vietnam People's Artist Le Khanh and Miss Vietnam World 2007 Ngo Phuong Lan have accepted the invitation to lead the run. This will be Lan's third year of participation in the run as its Goodwill Ambassador.

From 2000 to 2010, the Run for Children has attracted nearly 50,000 participants and raised more than VND4 billion (US$190,400).

The funds raised in previous years have been used for cancer research and the treatment of disadvantaged children with cancer and heart diseases at the National Hospital of Pediatrics, Hanoi Heart Hospital and the Heart Beat Vietnam Programs.
