A natural rubber processing plant in southern Vietnam was fined US$13,000 Wednesday for discharging untreated waste into the environment.

The rubber factory belonging to the Tri Dung Company in Binh Phuoc Province, not far from Ho Chi Minh City, was found dumping between 50 to 500 cubic meters of untreated waste water every day into a local river, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Many pollutants in the discharged waste were at least five times the permitted amount, local inspectors said.
