Security guards apprehended and handed over to the Ho Chi Minh City police a Romanian man who allegedly drew money using fake ATM cards on Sunday, DongA Bank told Thanh Nien.
Nguyen Quoc Toan, the bank's deputy director general, said after "unusual" transactions had been discovered on the system a day earlier, control was tightened and the foreign man was caught using a fake card at an ATM in District 1 the very next day.
The man, who later told the police that his name was Cipriar and he was from Romania, had an accomplice, but the latter managed to escape, he said.
In his hotel room the police found equipment used to fake cards and copy information from ATM cards together with VND300 million (US$14,200) in cash.
They also found fake cards of 10 other local banks.
The investigation continues.
