A road that connects the hub of Ho Chi Minh City with the coastal district of Can Gio officially opened to traffic on Saturday.

The 36-kilometer long Rung Sac Can Gio Roadway costed around VND1.56 trillion (US$80 million) to build and boasts six lanes. Three of them were put into use last January.

Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Unit, said the new road will help cut travel time between the center of the city and Can Gio, thus stimulating tourism in the coastal district.

Before Rung Sac Can Gio Street was inaugurated; people traveled between the two places mainly via ferry.
