Ninety-nine traffic accidents across Vietnam on the first two days of 2014 claimed 47 lives and injured 59 other people, the National Traffic Safety Committee said Friday.
Up to 60 accidents happened on Jan. 2, killing 27 people and injured 34 others, the committee reported.
No railway or waterway accident was reported in the same period.
Traffic police reported around 11,000 cases of traffic violations in the two days, imposing a total fine of VND5.8 billion (US$271,000).
The police also seized 14 cars and 1,356 motorbikes that violated traffic regulations.
