A court in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Thursday sentenced a man to one year in jail for attacking two traffic police officers while they were on duty, online newspaper Dan Tri reported.

Nguyen Xuan Thuong, 28, was convicted on charges of "acting against officers in performance of duty."

At around 5:45 p.m. on August 7, Pham Huu Minh and Nguyen Khanh, two officers of a traffic police team in Van Don District, drove a police motorbike and patrol car to chase after some trucks carrying smuggled coal.

On their way, they saw Thuong driving a motorbike in front of them. They signaled for Thuong to give way, but he ignored.
