A Portuguese-flagged container ship caught fire near Vung Tau Town off the southern coast of Vietnam on Tuesday.
It is believed that no one was hurt in the incident.
The Northern Volition was en route from Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai with 900 containers when the fire broke out in two containers filled with sugarcane dregs.
The crew managed to contain the fire. The vessel then sent signals to Vung Tau authorities asking for assistance.
The Vung Tau maritime authorities and firefighting police arrived and helped put out the blaze at 3:45 p.m.
The vessel arrived at Tan Cang-Cai Mep Port in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province’s Tan Thanh District to unload the damaged containers at 9 p.m. the same day.
