An unemployed couple in southern Vietnam were arrested with a man Saturday as they asked the latter to help sell their fourth child for US$477.

Vong A Khin from Dong Nai Province, his wife Nguyen Thi Thuy Van, and Nguyen Van Dong of Ho Chi Minh City have been detained for investigating charges of baby trafficking.

Khin and Van live at a rented house and have four children.

With unstable income from jobs at construction sites, their poverty drove them to try and sell their youngest son, one month old, who has not been named yet.

They asked Dong to help.

Dong, a homeless man, had been bringing the baby to local markets, pretending to be a beggar to look for potential buyers.

Some shoppers tipped the police.
