Seven cassava and rubber processing factories were ordered to close down in the southern province of Tay Ninh Wednesday for polluting the local environment.

Cassava processors Phuc Thang, Tien Duong, Kim Yen and Minh Toan; latex processors Tay Ninh May 1 and Tien Thanh, and another unnamed factory belonging to the provincial party unit were told they cannot reopen until they have addressed activities that have been causing the pollution.

The factories were among 32 blacklisted by the Tay Ninh People's Committee in 2007 as severe environment polluters.

They had failed to procure the needed equipment and improve their wastewater treatment system as ordered.
