A policeman has been suspended after he allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend and her fiancé "out of jealousy" in central Vietnam on Wednesday.
Corporal Phan Van Hung was suspended and ordered to write a report about the incident on Thursday, said his superior, Colonel Tran Quoc Toan, head of the mobile police department of Ha Tinh Province.
Hung and four other men were accused of battering Phan Thi Binh and Nguyen Minh Hoang, who were celebrating their espousal ceremony, in front of a karaoke parlor in Cam Xuyen Dist., Ha Tinh, at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Binh, who was Hung's ex-girlfriend and is pregnant, was beaten unconscious and Hoang reportedly sustained bleeding injuries in the nose.
The attackers left in their car only after the couple's relatives called the police.
The police of Cam Xuyen on Thursday summoned Hung for questioning over the attack. According to the police, Hung said he wanted to threaten the couple out of jealousy.
Nguyen Thi Thuong, Binh's sister, said Hung had send Binh many threatening messages after their break-up.
Hung is the son of a senior official of Cam Xuyen Dist.
