A police officer was injured in what is said to be an accidental firing from another officer at a traffic control unit in southern Vietnam this afternoon.
According to Tien Giang province police, Capt Nguyen Van Thu was checking his pistol before his patrol shift when it accidentally discharged in the Trung Luong traffic control station.
The bullet hit Capt Nguyen Thanh Phong, who happened to pass by at the moment, in the stomach.
He was rushed to a local hospital where doctors said his injury was not life-threatening, and he is recovering.
Other officers at the same unit said Thu and Phong are friends and there was no conflict between them.
