A traffic officer in the northern province of Son La was crushed to death by a truck when he was trying to clear congestion on a slippery road on Monday morning.
Tran Van Hinh and five other officers were in charge of moving vehicles along the road where traffic was snarled up due to frost. The previous night the temperature in the province fell below zero Celsius degree.
A truck suddenly skidded and crashed into a barrier, crushing Hinh, who was standing by the barrier, according to a source from Son La police.
Hinh was rushed to hospital but succumbed to severe injuries.
Police are investigating the case.
Vietnam is going through the worst cold spell in decades. There has been frost and even snow in many places in northern Vietnam, including Hanoi and Sa Pa, as well as Nghe An and Thanh Hoa Provinces in the north-central region.
