A senior police officer in the central province of Binh Thuan suffered serious injuries from a knife attack while investigating a home burglary.
Police in Ham Thuan Nam District on Friday confirmed that their deputy chief Le Van Bay is being treated in Ho Chi Minh City after the attack the previous night.
The police statement said Bay visited a local house at around 11 p.m. Thursday after being informed of a break-in. Locals had caught one suspect.
When Bay went into the backyard for investigation, a person attacked him, allegedly in an attempt to rescue the accomplice.
The officer suffered cuts on his arms and shoulders which caused a lot of bleeding.
Police have arrested three suspects in the incident, who are boys of 16 and 17 years old. Investigation found they were employees at a local plantation.
