Hanoi police have arrested three people for trading 33.5 kilograms of gold jewelry smuggled from Hong Kong.
Bui Thi Loan, 58, of Quang Ninh Province was caught red-handed on Tuesday delivering the jewelry to Co Kien Son, 58, of Hanoi at the Metro supermarket's parking area on Bac Tu Liem District’s Pham Van Dong Street.
The other arrestee was 42-year-old driver Vu Van Lan.
Police seized 33 bags containing 4,319 jewelry items made from 18-karat gold, including necklaces, earrings and bracelets, valuing about VND21 billion (nearly US$1 million) in total.
Loan confessed she smuggled jewelry from Hong Kong into Vietnam through China to sell in Hanoi.
Police are investigating the case.
