Police confiscated nearly two tons of undocumented endangered species from a truck in the central province of Nghe An Tuesday.
Police in Thanh Chuong District said they found 252 iguanas, 90 yellow-headed temple turtles (Hieremys annandalei), 32 giant leaf turtles (Heosemys grandis), and 25 Indochinese Ratsnakes (Ptyas korros) in the truck heading north.
They said they found the vehicle "suspicious" so they stopped it for an inspection.
The truck driver, whose identity was not revealed, is in custody alongside his vehicle and the wildlife.
It was unclear whether the animals were dead or alive.
All the species are categorized as endangered in Vietnam.
