The Hanoi police seized more than 1.5 tons of timber allegedly smuggled from Ho Chi Minh City by air at Noi Bai International Airport Monday.
A group of police officers of the airport patrolled a warehouse in the airport and found two trucks carrying 1,570 kilograms of timber, including some rare and valuable species.
The truck drivers, Nguyen Hoang Thoi and Dang Duc Lich, failed to produce documents showing the origin of the wood.
They said they were hired to transport the timber by Nguyen Xuan Hoan, an employee of the Noi Bai Airport Services Joint Stock Company.
The trucks belong to the Noi Bai Transport Limited Company.
Hoan told the police he was acting on behalf of his company, but he too failed to produce any documents.
The police confiscated the timber and are investigating.
