Police in Hanoi have sought to press charges against a gang of eight people, led by a 15-year-old girl, for robbing and raping minors.

Investigations show that between July 16 and 20 last year Dao Thu Huong led her accomplices, all males including her 19-year-old lover Trinh Thang Long, to gang-rape five girls, including two of whom were 16 years old.

They had robbed the victims of more than VND30 million (US$1,439) in total, including cash and motorbikes, police said.

Their scheme was to let Huong, known as My Soi (My the wolf), make friends with girls via online chats. She would then ask the girls to go out, and later she and her gang forced them to hotels where they were raped and robbed, police said.

The gang also filmed the rape to blackmail the victims later, forcing the girls into prostitution to bring them money.

Police launched the investigation last July following a complaint lodged by a 15-year-old victim.
