Police in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu Monday sought charges against seven people in a ring stealing and trading in crocodiles.
Investigations showed that between June and July last year the ring, led by 30-year-old Mai Van Hieu, conducted 14 cases with thousands of crocodiles worth over VND542 million (US$25,970) stolen.
Meanwhile, Vo Van Khanh pinpointed families raising crocodiles and bought 807 stolen crocodiles at a total of over VND429 million ($20,555).
Khanh was charged with consuming stolen properties, while six others faced charges of theft.
The ring was busted after Hieu and one of his accomplices were arrested on July 14 last year while they were attempting to steal 122 crocodiles from a local family.
