Police in Ho Chi Minh City Wednesday asked prosecutors to press charges of producing and trading in fake drugs against 14 people.
A nationwide alert has been sounded for the ring leader, Huynh Ngoc Quang.
Investigators said in 2009, Quang and Huynh Van Tien, directors of the Viet Phap Pharmaceutical Company, bought cheap drugs, and then ordered other companies to print packaging to present them as imported ones.
They sold these fake imports to earn high profits, investigators said, adding that the duo hired their family members and people in their home Quang Ngai province to work for them.
The ring was busted last January, and investigators confiscated tens of thousands of fake drug products at many storage facilities that Quang hired in different districts across HCMC.
