Hanoi police successfully rescued the last of the three hostages who spent five hours being held by at knife-point in an old tenement apartment.
Phan Thanh Binh, 28, released his last hostage, an eleven-year old boy at 10:45 am, after being persuaded by local police. Binh was arrested soon afterward.
Police successfully persuaded Binh to release a 7-year old girl and a housekeeper, one after another, at around 8am this morning.
Thanh Nien' s initial reports about the incident were removed after Binh threatened to kill the boy if police didn't prevent local press form running news about the incident.
Binh allegedly broke into the 4th floor apartment of the Thanh Xuan Bac tenement between 5-6am this morning.

The kidnapping suspect was taken away in a black car of Hanoi police.
The mother of the two siblings, whose name has only been reported as Hong, left her home at around 5am to exercise and returned an hour later.
When Hong thrust her hand through a hole in her apartment gate to unlock it, Binh slashed it with a sharp blade.
Hong ran from the scene, shouting for help and was rushed to the hospital by her neighbors.
Authorities reached the place minutes after receiving reports from locals.
The apartment, located at the end of the block, was hidden from view so that it was not easy for the police to approach the scene and rescue the rest of the hostages.
