Ho Chi Minh City police have arrested two men that allegedly beat a police officer to the ground after he tried to stop them from attacking another man.
Police said Nguyen Thanh Nghia, 22 and Le Quoc Viet, 21, work as security guards at Mahalo Beer Club in Tan Phu District.
The incident happened on July 26 after one of their colleagues from the club, Nguyen Hoang Dang, had a traffic collision with an unidentified man on Go Dau Street.
Dang went to the club and asked Nghia, Viet and two others to help him look for the man in the collision for revenge.
They then found a man and beat him, before recognizing that he was not the right person.
A team of police officers saw the attack and managed to arrest one of the security guards, while the others fled the scene.
But police said Nghia and Viet changed their mind. They returned and started attacking the officers with an iron bar.
Officer Luong Huu Loi was seriously injured in the assault.
More police officers were mobilized to the scene to arrest Nghia and Viet. Loi was immediately taken to hospital.
Police are investigating the case.
