Ho Chi Minh City’s police arrested a married couple who robbed a local woman of her necklace on Tuesday after firing several warning shots and chasing them for a few hundreds of meters in District 1.
District 1 police said that around 7 p.m., a group of officers on a patrol saw Nguyen Hoang Phi, 29, and his wife Nguyen Thi Thu Yen, 28, riding on a motorbike, looking suspicious.
So, they followed the couple.
When they reached Nguyen Hue Street, the couple approached Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, 32, who was walking along the street, and snatched her necklace which was estimated at VND6 million (US$280).
Police began chasing the robbers, and at one point, fired several rounds in the air in order to warn them to stop.
But, the couple continued running until they were caught on Le Loi Street.
The couple told police that they were husband and wife and that they committed robberies to fund their drug habit.
Police are investigating.
