More than 25 cubic meters of
undocumented timber was found at a warehouse owned by a deputy police chief in
the central province of Quang Nam, the province said Friday.
The wood, including bassia, was
found by officials from Phuoc Son District Department of Agriculture and Rural
Development and district forest rangers at a warehouse managed by Tran Thi Minh
Hieu, wife of the district police officer.
Hieu said she had bought parts
of the timber from businesses collecting wood leftovers from the site of a
hydropower plant construction project. The rest came from minority group
families who were given wood by the government to build houses.
The name of the police officer,
her husband, was not released.
Also on Friday, police in Nhon
Trach District, Dong Nai Province neighboring Ho Chi Minh City caught Dai Huu
Nguyen, 21, and Tran Viet Thanh, 27, cutting electric wires.
The workers of the private
electric equipment company Dai Phuc Thien had been sent to install wiring at
another company in the same Nhon Trach District. The job was done and the pair
had decided to steal extra wires in their free time, investigators said.
