A car driver was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday after attempting to flee from police officers who caught him driving dangerously, allegedly under the influence of drugs.
At around 7 a.m. on Friday, a group of traffic officers in Tan Binh District found Trinh Huu Dong, 43, driving recklessly at high speed and ordered him to stop.
Dong ignored them and sped up along the crowded Truong Chinh Street in an attempt to escape. The officers began to pursue him.
During the chase, the seven-seater car ran many red lights, veered to the wrong lanes and sidewalks, and collided with several other cars and motorbikes.
The officers fired several warning shots and then shot the car’s rearview mirror in order to stop him, but Dong refused to.
The chase continued through many streets in Phu Nhuan District and then District 3, 4 and 1 before the officers managed to block the car on Nuoc Len Bridge in Binh Tan District.
Dong then pulled out a knife but he was handcuffed soon.
At the police station, Dong said he “used drugs a lot." Officers said he could not stop laughing when being questioned.
Police said they will test him for drugs soon and open an investigation.
