Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Saturday cracked down an illegal casino, arresting over 100 gamblers and seizing a dozen of cars at the scene.
Police had to take a train and arrived at a railway station near the gambling den before secretly approaching the house, which was always under close surveillance by a group of guardians, for a sudden raid starting at around 1:30 p.m.
More than a hundred of gamblers, including managers of the ring, were caught red-handed with a lot of cash, police said, without mentioning the exact sum of money. Most of the gamblers are from Hai Phong and other nearby localities like Hanoi, Hai Duong and Bac Ninh, police said.
Quang Ninh authorities said that the illegal casino was among the biggest ones in the province, adding that they are looking further into the case.
Last August, Quang Ninh police burst another illegal gambling ring, seizing more than 70 gamblers and the ring operator, who is an infamous gang leader in the area.
