Two police officers were injured during a raid on a gambling den in the central province of Quang Nam, a local news website reported Friday.

According to VietNamNet, four officers of Thang Binh District's police force busted the den on Thursday, acting on tip-offs from local residents, and caught six people gambling.

However, during the raid, three suspects fled the scene.

While police were filling out reports, the three remaining suspects attacked Second Lieutenant Nguyen Chau Toan and Sergeant-Major Nguyen Anh Duc, VietNamNet reported.

During the melee, another suspect, 18-year-old Phan Huynh Dan, managed to escape, it said.

The officers called for backup and used devices to control the remaining suspects, before escorting them to the local police station for further questions.

Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Phan Duc Thang, deputy chief of Thang Binh's police division, was quoted as saying that authorities were hunting down the four suspects still at large.

Those suspects are now wanted on charges of "gambling" and "acting against people on a public mission," Thang said.
