Ho Chi Minh City police have arrested a man for snatching an iPhone 6 from a South Korean tourist in the popular backpackers’ area early Thursday.
At 4:45 a.m. a group of officers in District 1 was patrolling the streets when they saw a man riding a motorbike, looking "suspicious.”
They secretly followed him.
When he arrived at Pham Ngu Lao Street, he saw an elderly foreigner walking and talking on the phone.
He approached the man and grabbed the iPhone 6.
He sped up to flee and the officers started chasing after him.
The man drove very fast through many empty streets before being surrounded by the officers on Tran Hung Dao Street.
An officer reportedly kicked him and he fell to the ground.
The snatcher has been identified as Nguyen Van Linh, 22, from the central province of Ninh Thuan.
The police then returned the iPhone 6 to the 74-year-old South Korean tourist.
