Police have arrested the main suspect in the shooting death of two people in Phu Quoc Island last weekend, reportedly after a gunfight.
Do Thanh Son, aka Tuan Em, was injured in the shootout and is now being treated in Phu Quoc General Hospital.
A source told Thanh Nien that police found Tuan Em when he was hiding in a guest house with his girlfriend.
He opened fire when he saw the police officers and wounded one, the source said. The officers fired back.
A source at the hospital said Tuan Em sustained a chest wound.
Tuan Em, 31, had been on the loose since he allegedly shot and killed two people at a beer club in Phu Quoc on Saturday night.
He and an accomplice, Le Van Nghia, 14 allegedly sought revenge against Huynh Quoc Bao over personal conflict and found him in Lion Garden beer club that night.
Tuan Em fired at Bao but missed and the shot hit and killed Thai Thi Thanh Mai, a pregnant woman who was celebrating her birthday at the club.
Bao tried to flee but Nghia slashed him with a scimitar. When Bao fell, Tuan Em shot at him twice and killed him. They then left the scene.
Nghia was arrested on Monday. The police also arrested Le Thanh Giang, 27, who was accused of helping Tuan Em flee.
