The Philippine military forces have seized thousands of sacks of suspected smuggled rice from a Vietnamese vessel on Monday, local media reported.
They said the ship named MV An Vien-89-ALCI was found with 116,000 sacks of rice in waters off Pata Island in Sulu, the Inquirer reported.
It was carrying 16 Vietnamese crew members, including its captain Nguyen Van Loi.
Three other Filipino vessels, which were loaded with 15,000 sacks of imported rice and a dozen of firearms, were also apprehended around the same time.
The Philippines authorities have yet to issue a statement regarding the identification of the owners of the vessels and destination of the suspected smuggled rice.
