A Philippines Navy ship Sunday rescued 11 Vietnamese fishermen whose boat engine broke down off a Filipino island.

The fishing boat first sent distress calls to the search and rescue center in its hometown, Quang Ngai Province, Saturday when it was adrift around 40 nautical miles off Balabac Island in Palawan islands. The center then informed the Vietnam National Committee for Search and Rescue.

Filipino forces were informed and they immediately dispatched a rescue vessel, which towed the boat to Palawan.

Border guards in the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau are meanwhile still looking for a local fishing boat that has lost contact with the mainland since October 30.
