An aviation official Thursday said a passenger was found opening a plane's emergency exit door without permission after a flight from Ho Chi Minh Ctiy landed in the central province of Phu Yen the day before.

The incident happened after the plane landed at around 3.45 p.m., causing a nearly-two-hour delay for the next flight from Tuy Hoa town to HCMC, said Bui Xuan Nam of the Central Airport Authority.

Vo Van Sy, who was detained by the airport's security guards immediately, said he opened the door accidentally when he stood up.

Under the regulations, Sy could be fined between VND10-20 million (US$480-960), the news website Dan Viet (Vietnamese people) reported.
