A Vietnamese crew member was killed when a Panamanian ship crashed into his fishing vessel off the southern province of Vung Tau on Thursday, provincial port authorities said on Friday.
Duong Huynh Nhat was aboard the fishing boat along with six other crew members when it was sunk by the Cheng Lu 19, which was helmed by Chinese captain Zhao Yue Ping, according to Vung Tau Port Authorities.
Six of the Vietnamese crew jumped off the boat and were rescued by some nearby fishing boats, while Nhat died in the collision. His body was retrieved later the same day.
Local authorities have seized the foreign boat for further investigation into the cause of the accident.
