A court in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday sentenced a Pakistani man to six months in jail for damaging some appliances at his in-laws’ house during an argument with his Vietnamese wife.
Toor Jah Mohamad Nasrollah, 35, was charged of deliberately damaging others’ properties.
The indictment said the man and his 40-year-old wife got married in Pakistan in November 2014.
She then came back to Vietnam and he stayed to finish his training to become a medical doctor. The couple started to have conflicts and she wanted a divorce.
He came to Vietnam in June last year and came to his wife's family in an attempt to save the marriage.
As she refused to see him, he had a fight with her mother and brother.
When the mother tried to film him with her cell phone, he grasped it and threw it on the floor, before smashing a television and a deodorizer machine, causing total damage of VND32 million (US$1,435), according to the court.
