Authorities in the southern province of Ba Ria Vung Tau Wednesday said they have decided to fine the owner of a foreign ship for failing to retrieve it after it ran aground nearly three years ago.

Wealthy Global, a Vanuatan ship, was docked in Can Gio District, Ho Chi Minh City on July 15, 2010, when its anchor broke, causing it to drift away and eventually become stranded on Bai Truoc (front beach) off the coast of the resort town of Vung Tau.

It has been there ever since, according to the provincial authorities.

They said Wealthy Global is one of the world's largest crane ships, measuring 196 meters long and 50 meters wide. Its crane is capable of lifting 5,000 tons, while the ship weighs some 25,000 tons.

It is also equipped with two helipads.
