Since the 1980s, Nguyen Thi That Peel, chairwoman of France Vietnam Culture Association, has brought French doctors to Vietnam for humanitarian activities, especially in her home province of Ben Tre.

That, who left the Mekong Delta for France in 1959, was known for her efforts to strengthening the relationship between the peoples of France and Vietnam, French government representative Pierre Dianteill said at the ceremony in which the Légion d'honneur (National Order of the Legion of Honour) was bestowed on That Wednesday.
