A man of Vietnamese origin faces between 35 years to life in jail after being found guilty of killing a Vietnamese sex worker in the US, the VnExpress on Sunday cited the US media as saying.
Ba Tran, 30-year-old owner of a nail shop and brothel in San Jose, California, has been accused of shooting Dieu Nguyen to death with 16 bullets.
The body riddled with bullet holes was found in November 2008 in car.
Tran's lawyer said Nguyen was killed by a group of Asian gangsters who she owed money to but the jury on Tuesday accepted the prosecution's contention that Tran was acting alone.
State attorney Matt Braker said Nguyen had bought a nail shop from Tran's girlfriend and run it as a brothel, but she did not pay back enough money.
Nguyen had also refused to pay Tran after he introduced sex workers from his brother's establishment to work at Nguyen's, the indictment said.
So the man followed Nguyen in his car and shoot her. He tried to set fire to his car later, that but the police arrived before it was reduced to ashes and found the bullet shells.
Tran will be sentenced on February 25.
