One man was killed and another was injured when the motorbike they were riding was swept away by overflowing water from a hydropower plant's tank in the northern province of Hoa Binh on Saturday.
According to a Vietnam News Agency report on Sunday, Bui Van Phuong, 39, and Bui Van Dong, 19, had their heads struck by rocks as they were swept away.
Phuong died on the spot, while Dong was rushed to the hospital, the news report said, adding that Dong's condition has stabilized.
Workers who operated the Suoi Trang Hydropower Plant, managed by Van Hong Ltd., Co., in Cao Phong District, were quoted as saying that due to a sudden power outage, a turbine became dysfunctional, allowing water to overflow from the plant's surge tank.
The tank was located next to a residential road, according to the news agency.
It said that the plant went into operation with capacity of 2.7 MW more than one year ago, and that discharged water from the plan has been accused of damaging local crops.
