Police in Ho Chi Minh City early Sunday morning seized more than 200 motorbikes from different illegal racing mobs who have posed serious threats to road safety of late.

The racers appeared on the roads at around 9 p.m. Saturday. Traffic and crime cops in plain clothes managed to stop several races but the racers divided themselves and held smaller races on different streets.

When the police withdrew around 3 a.m. Sunday, thousands of young men started to gather around Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street for a big race.

Many of them waited along the road to applaud the racers, who rode on one wheel, lay on their bikes and steered them with their feet and performed other stunts. Each race had from two to five motorbikes.

Shortly after 4 a.m., the police appeared suddenly and managed to seize around 130 motorbikes.

Police in District 4 seized around 100 bikes by disguising themselves and joining in the races.
