An appeals court in Ho Chi Minh City Saturday upheld a one-year jail term for a man who attacked two traffic police officers in March this year.
According to the indictment, on March 15, Tran Dinh Thuong, 35, was caught riding a motorbike without wearing helmet, so Nguyen Duc Thanh and Nguyen Trong Thanh, both officers of Thu Duc District police division, signaled for him to pull over.
However, Thuong sped up and tried to flee the scene.
One of the officers, Duc Thanh, gave chase and got him to stop.
When the officer asked Thuong to present his documents, the man refused and started abusing Thanh verbally and then assaulted him.
The other officer, Trong Thanh, was also attacked when he arrived at the scene.
The officers managed to overpower Thuong and hand him over to the local police.
