The Party committee in the southern province of Long An has sent official warnings to two local officials who attended a get-together last month during which a young woman drowned.

Thai Van O, deputy secretary of Can Giuoc District's Party Unit's committee, told the press Friday that Nguyen Kim Doan, former chief of Can Giuoc's People's Procuracy and his subordinate Nguyen Huong Giang had joined "unhealthy recreational activities," and violated code of conduct prescribed for state employees and the Party's members.

O quoted the committee's findings as saying that on August 20, Doan and Giang attended the party on a barge along the Vam Co River together with a dozen other people, including six women, two of whom work as hostesses at a local bar.

After drinking, some of the party goers went swimming in the river and Dinh Thi Kim Phuong, 20, drowned.

Chief prosecutor dismissed for involvement in deadly party

Previously local police concluded that Phuong, who didn't join the swimming because she couldn't swim, fell into the river accidentally.

In the meantime, Long An's People's Procuracy, the provincial office of prosecutors, has suspended the two officials for 15 days for further punishment.

On Tuesday it also dismissed Doan from his post.
