The vice director of Phu Yen Province’s Justice Department has been dismissed for several violations and is pending a criminal investigation for cheating and taking bribes.
The chairman of Phu Yen People’s Committee took the action against Nguyen Ngoc Bao as advised by the committee of the province’s Party Unit.
In October last year, the Party committee concluded that Bao and his wife were deeply in debt and creditors were harassing him at home and at his office, which affected the public servant’s image.
During the time he worked as a vice director of the Department of Home Affairs, before being transferred to the Justice Department, Bao and his family organized a ring that cheated many people out of money by pretending to promise them jobs at state agencies.
The Party committee then expelled Bao, asked the local government to sack him, and handed over its findings to police.
About two months later, Bao was accused of cracking a local man’s head with a stick, sending the latter to hospital.
The victim, Huynh Xuan Phuoc, who is in charge of building countryside streets in Tay Hoa District, said he was viciously assaulted by the official and his two sons on December 23, while Phuoc and others were clearing trees for a street construction project.
Phuoc said they were working in front of the house of Bao's sister, and Bao claimed that they were encroaching on his family's house's hedges.
