Authorities in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu dismissed an official on Wednesday for taking bribes to help some people get jobs at a government office.

Trinh Tan Luc, 47, chief of the human resources office of Hong Dan District Preventive Health Center, also had his Party membership revoked.

According to inspectors of the district's Party unit, investigations into Luc's misconduct started after they received written complaints from some employees who'd signed temporary work contracts with the center.

The employees accused Luc of soliciting bribes for making them regular staff members.

Luc told five employees to give him VND20 million (US$948) each for the service.

Two employees agreed and together gave him VND25 million. The others refused and exposed the official.

Luc has been ordered to pay back the money he'd taken.
