A Dong Nai court has sentenced a 49-year-old woman to one year in prison after a child fell into coma due to falling at her unlicensed nursery last year.
Nguyen Thi Lan Trinh was found guilty of “undeliberately causing injuries” to one-year-old Nong Ngoc Minh Thu at her facility, the court said Friday.
According to the indictment, Trinh opened a nursery in the province’s Vinh Cuu District without obtaining a license. She had quit school at 4th grade.
On March 27, 2015, Thu claimed she was sitting by her side when she suddenly bounced up and fell.
Trinh took her to the bed after rubbing some medicated oil to the bruise in her head.
About an hour later, she attempted to wake the child up for feeding but she began to vomit.
Trinh called his mother Khac Thi Thuy who later took the child to the Dong Nai Children’s Hospital.
Doctors diagnosed Thu with brain hemorrhage and transferred her to the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Hospital No. 2 for an operation.
However, the child has not recovered from a coma.
Subsequent examination found she sustained 93 percent of injury.
