A ninth
grader in the northern province of Bac Giang was killed Monday when helping
demolish wall to facilitate the construction of more classrooms.
Nguyen
Thanh Hung, 15, was killed at around 3p.m. when a nearby pillar fell onto him as
bricks were being removed from the wall, Vu Van Tung, vice principal of the Dai
Thanh Junior High School in Hiep Hoa District was quoted by local newswire
Vietnamnet as saying Thursday.
His class
was asked by the school authorities to remove the wall between the school and
neighboring Dai Thanh Primary School to make space to build eight classrooms,
Tung said.
Trieu Van
Cuong, the class teacher, supervised the work. Cuong himself removed bricks from
the top of the wall and only let five students to push the wall down when it was
around 1.5 meters high and 1 meter long.
But the
push was not steady and the wall fell toward them instead. It caused the pillar
of the nearby parking lot fall as well.
Hung was
killed on the spot under the pillar.
Ngo Van
Ngoc and Nguyen Van Khiem were rushed to hospital with injuries to their heads
and arms.
