A woman from the south central province of Ninh Thuan has accused a local police officer of beating her unconscious at the police station on Saturday.
Tran Thi Chuc, 38, had to be rushed to Ninh Thuan General Hospital for treatment.
Chuc said her family members had a fight on Saturday and her brother Tran Van Nghia was taken to the police station of Dong Hai Ward in Phan Rang Town.
Nghia was handcuffed to the stairs there, so Chuc had protested the action, telling the police: "My brother didn't steal or rob anything to be handcuffed."
As the situation became more tense, a police officer named Ha, according to his badge, hit Chuc on the head with a cane and caused her to bleed, and then kicked at her chest and belly until she fainted, the woman said.
Chuc's husband said he had to call 113 to intervene and bring her to hospital.
Nguyen Huu Binh, police chief of Dong Hai Ward, refused to comment on the case and passed it to the police department of Phan Rang Town.
Huynh Duc Ba, deputy head of the town police, said the case was under investigation and that he couldn't provide any information at this point.
