Police in the central province of Gia Lai have proposed the filing of charges against nine former health officials for violations in drug auctions, causing losses of nearly VND9 billion (US$428,000).
A VnExpress report Thursday said Phung Xuan Quynh, former director of the provincial Department of Health, faces the charge of "lacking responsibility, leading to serious consequences."
Eight other former officials of the health department, including two deputy directors Nguyen Cong Nhan and Dang Duc Chau - are likely to be charged with "deliberately violating the state regulations leading to serious consequences."
According to the police, between 2008 and 2010, the officials violated the bidding process by ignoring lowest bids and choosing higher ones.
They also wrongly certified the origins of drugs, labeled locally-made products as imported ones, which benefited successful bidders, the news website reported.
