A Honda Lead was totally damaged in a fire in Hanoi Friday, becoming the fourth case in which motorbikes caught on fire mysteriously in the capital since the beginning of this month.
The woman, who was riding the motorbike heading for the northern port city of Hai Phong, escaped the flames without injuries.
Police are investigating the cause
Two days ago, an SYM Attila Elizabeth also caught fire when a woman was crossing Chuong Duong Bridge in Long Bien District. The driver also survived the fire without injuries.
On December 9 and 12, a Honda Air Blade and a Honda SH were also burned in mysterious fires.
All of the cases have yet to be concluded. Meanwhile, Honda Vietnam Co. Ltd said it didn't detect any fault in its products that could act as an ignition in such fires.
The producer also said it has not inspected a Super Dream that exploded in the northern province of Bac Ninh on December 1, killing a woman and her four-year-old daughter. It said the vehicle was still in police custody for investigations.
At least 25 cases of motorbikes exploding and catching fire have been recorded in Vietnam since 2006, including 13 this year, according to a VnExpress report on December 13.
