A man wanted for killing a free meal giver in Ho Chi Minh City last August went on to kill three more people during separate robberies before being arrested early this morning, police said.
Tran Van Diem, 27, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. in HCMC by police officers of the neighbouring province of Ba Ria Vung Tau, who were investigating the murder of Nguyen Hoang Ngan, a vegan food shop owner in Vung Tau City.
Ngan was found dead in his shop on December 15, suffering multiple knife stabs.
Diem, who worked as a street masseur, has admitted to killing Ngan and taking his motorbike and two mobile phones, the police said.
Diem is wanted by HCMC police after he allegedly killed Tran Minh Phuoc in District 6 on August 10.
Phuoc, a scrap collector, was helping an unidentified donor to distribute free meals to poor people. Diem stabbed Phuoc after the latter refused to give him three more portions.
Diem then headed north, and a month later, on September 15, he stabbed a man named Pham Van Can to death in Hai Phong City, and robbed his motorbike and mobile phone, according to the police.
He fled southwards and on September 24 killed another man named Le Minh Hiep for his motorbike in the central province of Quang Ngai, also by stabbing, the police said.
